Obverse description Bare-headed, armored bust of Henry II facing right, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century French royal coinage. The king is depicted with curly hair and a short beard, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with a ruffled collar visible at the neck. The effigy occupies the central field, with the circular Latin legend surrounding it between plain and beaded borders.
