(Translation: Louis, by God`s grace, king of the Franks and count of Provence.)
Reverse description Central device consisting of a cross fleurdelisée, with each arm terminating in a fleur-de-lis and additionally ornamented with outward-curving gothic cusps, creating a cross pattée-like profile. At the centre of the cross a small voided quadrilobe is incised, with a single pellet at its heart. The four quadrants formed by the cross arms are open fields. The entire design is contained within a raised inner circle, beyond which the circular Latin legend in Gothic characters occupies the outer border between two beaded rims, invoking the triple acclamation of Christ as victor, king, and commander.
