Obverse description Central field dominated by an elaborate fleurdelisée cross with trefoil terminals, each arm adorned with scrollwork volutes and a central quatrefoil rosette at the intersection; a crowned fleur-de-lis surmounts the top arm of the cross, while the royal cipher H appears at the base. The peripheral legend in Latin reads HENRICVS III D G FRAN ET POL REX followed by the mint date, distributed around the full circumference between two linear borders. The overall design is characteristic of the late Valois hammered gold coinage, rendered with fine decorative relief typical of the Aix-en-Provence mint.
