Obverse description Central field bears the royal French arms — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by an elaborate royal crown rendered in high relief in the characteristic late Gothic style. A radiant sun rises immediately above the crown, serving as the distinguishing type symbol of this emission. The circumferential legend in Latin runs between a beaded inner border and the irregular hammered edge of the flan.
