Obverse description Central field displays the crowned French royal shield of arms bearing three fleurs-de-lis arranged two over one (France moderne), surmounted by an ornate medieval crown with fleurons and beaded band. The shield is set within a tightly beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters running between two concentric borders. The overall design follows the established French royal ecu type with bold, high-relief die work characteristic of late 15th-century hammered gold coinage.
