Obverse description Central field displays the crowned royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by an elaborate crown with fleurs-de-lis finials, all set within a raised inner circle. The heraldic shield is rendered in the late Gothic style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century French coinage. A circular Latin legend runs between the inner and outer raised borders, reading HENRICVS D G FRANCORVM REX C P, identifying Henry II as King of the Franks and Count of Provence. The legend is separated by pellets or small ornamental stops, and the lettering is executed in the bold gothic or roman hybrid script typical of the Aix-en-Provence mint of this period.

Reverse description Central device consists of a plain Latin cross set within a floriated quatre-lobed polylobe frame, each lobe formed by Gothic trefoil arches adorned with fleurs-de-lis at their cusps, creating an intricate Gothic tracery effect. Small fleurs-de-lis ornaments appear at the junctions of the lobes, filling the interstices between the cross arms and the polylobe border. The entire composition is enclosed within a raised inner circle. The circular Latin legend XPS VINCIT XPS REGNAT XPS IMPERA — the traditional Christus vincit acclamation — runs between the inner and outer borders, punctuated by ornamental stops, affirming the divine sovereignty of Christ over earthly rulers.
