| Obverse description | Philip the Good depicted enthroned and facing front within a Gothic canopied stall, crowned and robed, bearing a drawn sword upright in his right hand while his left hand rests upon a shield bearing the arms of Burgundy. The figure is rendered in the late-medieval Gothic style characteristic of Burgundian Low Countries coinage. The sovereign's throne is elaborately detailed with architectural elements typical of the period. The circumferential legend in Gothic uncial lettering reads PH'S DVX BVRG COM' FLAD' hES hOL', identifying Philip as Duke of Burgundy and Count of Flanders and Holland. |
