Obverse description Central field occupied by a crowned quartered shield of France-Navarre, displaying fleurs-de-lis in the upper quarters and the chains of Navarre in the lower quarters, surmounted by an ornate crown with fleur-de-lis finial. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend of the joint sovereigns running along the outer margin between two beaded borders. The die-work is characteristic of late medieval French-influenced hammered coinage, with bold Gothic lettering in the circumscription.
