Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of arms displaying the fleurs-de-lis of France in the first and fourth quarters and the baton of Anjou in the second and third quarters, surmounted by an ornate royal crown with three visible fleurs-de-lis finials. The shield is centrally positioned within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular legend reads GASTON ET MARIE SOVV DE DOMBES, identifying the joint sovereigns Gaston d'Orléans and Marie de Bourbon as rulers of the Principality of Dombes.

Reverse description An ornamental quadrilobe cross with each arm terminating in a fleur-de-lis, the design enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The four lobed compartments formed between the arms of the cross are decorated with additional floral ornaments. The circular legend, interrupted by the arms of the cross, reads DNS ADIVTOR ET REDEM NOSTER with the date 1627 incorporated within the legend, a devotional Latin phrase meaning 'The Lord is our helper and redeemer.'
