Obverse description Central field displays the heraldic shield of Béarn, divided per fess, with two bovine figures passant in the upper half and a single bovine passant in the lower half, all rendered in high relief in the hammered Gothic style characteristic of late 15th-century feudal coinage. The shield is enclosed within a raised inner circle, beyond which the circumferential legend is struck in Gothic lettering separated by pellets and fleurs. The irregular flan exhibits the typical characteristics of hand-struck medieval gold coinage, with slightly uneven surfaces in the field.
