| Obverse description | Royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a large royal crown with ornate jewelled band, occupying the central field. The shield displays three fleurs-de-lis arranged two-and-one in the French royal tradition. The entire device is set within a beaded inner circle, with the surrounding circular legend in Gothic-influenced Latin characters separated by pellets, running along the coin's periphery between two beaded borders. |

| Reverse description | A floriated cross with a quadrilobe at its centre occupies the full reverse field, its four arms extending to the inner circle. The four cantons formed by the cross are charged alternately with two crowned Gothic letter F's (for Franciscus) and two fleurs-de-lis, arranged in opposing pairs. The design is bold and symmetrical, characteristic of the French royal écu au soleil tradition, enclosed within a beaded inner circle with the circular Latin legend running along the outer border. |
