Reverse description An elaborate Gothic quadrilobe frame encloses a floriated cross, its arms terminating in fleurs-de-lis and foliate trefoil ornaments, with a small cross pattée at the central intersection. Each of the four lobes of the quadrilobe contains a further floral or foliate motif in high relief, characteristic of the Franco-Flemish Gothic decorative tradition. Four small crowns are placed in the outer angles between the lobes, filling the spandrels. The entire composition is contained within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the Latin legend runs around the circumference of the coin.
