Comments

György II Rákóczi ruled Transylvania from 1648 until his catastrophic and unsanctioned invasion of Poland in 1657 — a campaign that ended in military disaster, cost him Ottoman support, and ultimately destabilized Transylvania for a generation. Issuing a note in his honor in 2026 places him alongside the earlier Rákóczi series that the Magyar Nemzeti Bank has used to anchor its commemorative program to Transylvanian princely history.

Szász C. Ádám has handled several recent Hungarian commemorative designs. Whether this issue carries a face value or functions purely as a collector piece will determine its pickup in the philatelic market.
