| Obverse description | Central design depicts the gateway of Genoa (the Porta Soprana or city gate) set within a polylobe frame, the interior points of each lobe adorned with crosslets. The entire composition is enclosed by a raised beaded circle. The peripheral legend, rendered in uncial Latin, encircles the design and identifies the issuing doge. The overall execution is characteristic of the Genoese hammered gold tradition, with slightly irregular flan contours typical of the period. |
