Obverse description Central field bearing the crowned shield of Savoy — a plain cross on a divided field — flanked by four pellets arranged symmetrically in the quarters surrounding the escutcheon. The shield is surmounted by a stylized crown rendered in the late medieval Gothic manner. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters runs along the periphery, partially visible due to the irregular flan characteristic of hammered coinage.
