| Obverse description | Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Valentinianus II facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style. The effigy displays the characteristic small-module portrait type employed at the Thessalonica mint during the period of Theodosian occupation. The surrounding field is heavily patinated with encrustation, rendering much of the peripheral legend partially obscured, though the imperial titulature D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG encircles the bust. A beaded border frames the design. |
