| Obverse description | Rightward-facing imperial effigy of Valens rendered as a pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust, the diadem composed of a string of pearls characteristic of late Roman imperial portraiture. The emperor's shoulders are clothed in military cuirass with visible drapery, projecting regal authority. The surrounding Latin legend encircles the bust within a beaded border. The coin's surface shows heavy patination and wear consistent with circulation, yet the portrait type remains identifiable as the standard Valentinianic dynastic bust form. The obverse follows the conventional late Roman AE typology established for the eastern mints during the joint reign of Valentinian I and Valens. |
