Obverse description Diademed and mantled bust of Empress Helena right, wearing a richly striated diadem or stephane and a necklace, with a mantle draped over her shoulders in the imperial fashion typical of Constantinian court portraiture. The effigy is rendered with considerable detail, conveying regal dignity befitting her Augusta title. The circular Latin legend FL HELENA AVGVSTA runs along the beaded border, identifying the empress as Flavia Helena Augusta. The portrait style reflects the Late Roman artistic convention of frontalized monumentality combined with a three-quarter facing profile.
