| Reverse description | The reverse features the votive legend VOT / XV / MVLT / XX inscribed in four lines within a laurel wreath, commemorating Gratian's fifteenth vow (votis) and anticipating his twentieth. The wreath is finely rendered with opposing leaves tied at the base, consistent with Antiochene mint workmanship of the late fourth century. The mint mark SMAN • appears in the exergue below the wreath, denoting the Antioch mint (Sacra Moneta Antiochiae) with an officina dot. No additional figurative imagery appears on the reverse, the entire composition being devoted to the votive inscription enclosed within the decorative wreath border. |
