Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Gratian, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the late Roman military portrait style typical of the Valentinianic period. The pearl diadem is clearly delineated, with pendants falling behind the neck. The cuirass is partially visible at the truncation, and the paludamentum is fastened at the shoulder. The encircling Latin legend reads D N GRATIANVS P F AVG, separated from the bust by a beaded border.
