| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Emperor Gratian, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the late Roman imperial portrait style characteristic of the Theodosian period. The effigy displays the emperor's distinctive features framed by a beaded diadem, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads D N GRATIA-NVS P F AVG, interrupted by the bust. The flan is irregular, typical of late fourth-century hammered bronze coinage, and the surfaces show an even blue-green patina consistent with prolonged burial. |
