Obverse description Draped bust of Empress Aelia Eudoxia facing right, pearl-diademed, adorned with necklace and earrings. Above the bust, the manus Dei (hand of God) descends from above to place a diadem or crown upon her head, a prominent motif reflecting imperial divine sanction. The obverse legend encircles the effigy in Latin capitals. The portraiture is rendered in the stylized, frontal-influenced manner characteristic of late Roman imperial coinage of the Theodosian period.
