Additional information

The VOT XX MVLT XXX votive legend commemorates Constantius II's twentieth regnal anniversary — counted from his elevation as Caesar in 324, not his accession as Augustus in 337. Cyzicus was one of several eastern mints ramping up production in the late 340s as the imperial college struggled to maintain a coherent bronze coinage following the disastrous debasement of earlier decades. LRBC records two distinct varieties for this type at Cyzicus, differentiated by officina marks, both falling within the same narrow striking window before the Fel Temp Reparatio reform of 348 swept the votive series off the coinage entirely.
