Reverse description A trophy of arms stands at center, flanked on either side by a seated captive with hands bound, the two figures positioned back to back in the conventional submission pose signifying Roman military triumph. The field letters A and S appear to the left and right of the trophy respectively, serving as control marks. The reverse legend VIRTVS EXERCIT celebrates the valor and virtue of the Roman army. The mintmark PLG in the exergue denotes the first officina of the Lugdunum mint. The composition is bold and schematic, consistent with the reduced follis coinage of the Constantinian reform period.
