Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Arcadius facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style typical of the Theodosian period. The effigy displays the characteristic pearl diadem and military dress of the period. The Latin legend D N ARCADI-VS P F AVG (Dominus Noster Arcadius Pius Felix Augustus) encircles the bust. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show considerable wear and patination consistent with extended circulation. The die work reflects the small-module AE4 coinage characteristic of the Rome mint in the late fourth century.
