Reverse description The reverse bears a four-line Greek inscription in large, bold majuscule characters filling the entire field, a hallmark of the Anonymous Class A1 follis. The legend reads +IhSЧS / XRISTЧS / bASILЄЧ / bASILЄ, proclaiming Christ as King of Kings. The letters are crudely but forcefully struck, with pronounced serifs and characteristic Byzantine orthography. A cross precedes the first line of the legend. The plain field around the inscription shows the characteristic irregular flan of hammered Byzantine coinage.
