Obverse description Central quartered shield bearing the combined arms of the Prince-Bishopric of Liege and the la Marck family, divided by a cross, enclosed within a trilobe frame with trefoil points at each lobe termination. The shield is rendered in typical Late Gothic heraldic style with hatched field divisions. A beaded or pearled inner border separates the central device from the surrounding legend. The coin's hammered fabric gives the field an irregular, slightly convex surface characteristic of early sixteenth-century Low Countries gold coinage.
