Reverse description Central design features an ornate floriated cross with a fleur-de-lis at its centre, typical of Burgundian-Flemish gold coinage of the period. The four quadrants formed by the cross arms are filled with alternating heraldic charges — lions passant and fleurs-de-lis — representing the dynastic emblems of Burgundy and Flanders. Decorative foliate cusping ornaments terminate each arm of the cross, lending the design an intricate Gothic character. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the circumferential Latin legend in uncial script, which proclaims Philip's full titulature as Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, and Count of Flanders.
