| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned arms of Friesland — a quartered shield bearing two confronted rampant lions — set within elaborate foliate and acanthus mantling. The crowned shield is rendered in high relief with considerable detail to the decorative supporters and scrollwork. The circumferential Latin legend reads FLORENVS ARGENT ORDI FRISIÆ, separated by rosette ornaments, identifying this as the silver florin of the Frisian Estates. The overall composition follows the heraldic coin tradition of the Dutch provincial issues of the late seventeenth century. |
