Obverse description Central field depicts the enthroned figure of the Virgin Mary (Madonna) seated facing, crowned and nimbed, holding the Christ Child on her left knee, rendered in the Gothic style typical of late medieval Hungarian florins. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend running along the outer border in uncial Gothic lettering. The overall design follows the Florentine florin tradition adapted for the Hungarian royal coinage, with fine hammered relief characteristic of the period.
