Obverse description Central field depicts the enthroned Virgin Mary (Madonna) facing slightly right, crowned, holding the Christ Child on her left arm in the traditional Hungarian Royal Madonna type. The figures are rendered in a bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of late medieval Hungarian gold coinage. A small heraldic shield bearing the Hungarian arms appears in the lower field. The surrounding legend reads IOHANNES D G R VNGARIE, separated by mullet stops, running along the inner border of a beaded rim.
