| Reverse description | The reverse depicts the standing full-length figure of Saint Ladislaus (László), patron saint of Hungary, facing forward and wearing a crown, armor, and royal robes. He holds a battle-axe (his traditional attribute) in his right hand and an orb in his left. The mint mark letters NC appear in the field to the left of the figure, with the date 1555 arranged vertically along the left side. The Latin legend S LADISLAVS REX encircles the figure within a beaded border, identifying the saint as King Ladislaus. The style is consistent with mid-sixteenth-century Hungarian hammered gold coinage. |
