Reverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of Florence, standing erect within the field, nimbed and clad in a camel-skin garment. The saint holds a long staff or cross in his right hand and raises his left hand in a gesture of blessing or pointing. Flanking the figure in the field are the control marks and symbols of the mint master responsible for the specific emission, as is customary for the Florentine florin series. A beaded border encloses the composition, with the circumferential Latin legend naming the saint as S IOHANNES B(aptista).
