Reverse description Full-length standing figure of Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of Florence, depicted facing forward in long robes with a nimbus and a beaded halo above his head. He raises his right hand in a gesture of benediction and holds a long cross-staff in his left hand. To the left of the figure appears the Florentine mint shield bearing the Marzocco arms. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads *S*IOHAN NES*B*, interrupted by decorative star stops. The composition is typical of the Florentine fiorino largo type of the mid-fifteenth century.
