Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Selim III, rendered in high relief and enclosed within a plain raised circle. The tughra's characteristic looped monogram, with its sweeping horizontal strokes and tall vertical shafts topped by the invocation of Allah, fills the inner field with great artistic dynamism. Surrounding the inner circle is an ornate border featuring interlocking foliate and geometric arabesques, terminating at four cardinal points in stylised bracket motifs. The outermost rim is plain and slightly raised, framing the entire composition. The design is executed entirely in Arabic script.
