Obverse description High-relief bust of Field Marshal Lord Kitchener in uniform facing three-quarters right, bare-headed with a prominent moustache, a decorated cross visible at the collar. A laurel branch appears in the left field beside the portrait, with the legend arranged around the upper periphery. The engraver's signature J.P. LEGASTELOIS is inscribed at the lower left.

Reverse description Britannia standing in left profile, helmeted and draped, holding a sword in her right hand and a large oval shield in her left, beside a large unfurled British ensign occupying much of the right field. The word THOROUGH is inscribed in the central field, and the engraver's signature LEGASTELOIS appears in the lower exergue.
