Obverse description High-relief bust of Field Marshal August von Mackensen facing front, depicted in the elaborate uniform of the Death's Head Hussars with epaulettes and the Pour le Mérite order at his throat. The legend to the left reads FELDMAR-SCHALL v. MACKENSEN and to the right VNSER MARSCHALL VORWÄRTS, with a heraldic shield bearing an eagle device in the upper right field. The engraver's name BLICHMANN appears in the lower exergue.
