Obverse description The obverse bears the inscription A DISS FARTHING arranged across three horizontal lines in the field, with the date 1669 on the lowest line. Small stylised floral or trefoil ornaments are distributed around the periphery of the field, serving as decorative punctuation between the lines of lettering. The design is entirely typographic in character, typical of mid-seventeenth-century English provincial trade tokens, with no figurative imagery. The lettering is bold and slightly irregular, consistent with hand-cut dies of the period.
