Additional information

Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before any coins bearing his effigy entered circulation, leaving an almost complete void in British numismatic history for his reign. The "Wreath" Crown design dates to that abortive period — patterns were struck but never issued, making the original 1936 pieces genuinely rare artifacts of a reign that lasted less than a year. This 2017 piece is a modern fantasy restrike invoking that history rather than reproducing an authentic period pattern, produced for the collector market that has long been fascinated by the what-might-have-been of Edward's coinage.
