| Obverse description | Coloured central field depicting a tropical coastal scene with a large radiant sun rising over the sea, flanked by two palm trees on a sandy shore, with stylised blue and white ocean waves in the lower portion of the field. A seagull in flight appears above the sun against a vivid red sky. Fanning Island — properly Tabuaeran — is a coral atoll in the Line Islands that briefly hosted a Pacific Cable Company relay station in the early twentieth century, making it one of the more historically specific place names to appear on any Pacific numismatic fantasy piece. The "paper coloured" brass designation signals a lacquer or enamel treatment applied post-strike, a finishing technique that disqualifies these from any serious monetary classification.
Kiribati has never issued a 25-cent denomination.
