The Gambia has no legal tender in denominations anywhere near 1,000 dalasis — the actual currency tops out far below that in circulating coinage — making this a pure fantasy piece produced for the souvenir and novelty market with no authorization from the Gambian government or central bank. Silver-plated steel is the tell: legitimate Gambian collector issues from this period were struck in genuine silver or base metal, not plated substitutes dressed up to resemble precious metal coins.
