Obverse description Central raised boss or pellet set within a six-pointed interlaced geometric star pattern, the whole enclosed by a plain circular border. The hammered flan displays an irregular edge characteristic of Moroccan cast and hammered copper coinage of the Alaoui dynasty. The field between the points of the star is recessed, giving a bold, graphic appearance to the design. No legend or inscription appears on this face.

Reverse description The reverse bears a boldly struck Arabic inscription in crudely rendered characters filling the field, presenting the Hijri date in two or three lines depending on the die variety. The lettering is deeply impressed into the irregular flan, consistent with the hammered production technique. A small pellet or ornament appears above the inscription on certain die varieties. The field is otherwise plain, with no mint name present, as is characteristic of this emission.
