The upper register bears the legend 'al-Sultan' and the lower register reads 'bin al-Sultan,' asserting the dynastic legitimacy of the issuer as sultan, son of a sultan. A mintmark or auxiliary symbol appears within or adjacent to the lower field as noted in specialist references. The bold, somewhat crude lettering and uneven flan edges are typical of hammered copper issues of the Malwa Sultanate. |
