Obverse description Central device depicts the lion passant couchant with the rising sun behind it, the traditional emblem of Qajar Iran, rendered in low relief in the hammered style. The lion faces right and reclines upon a ground line, with radiating sun rays fanning prominently above its back. The date ۱۲۷۱ (AH 1271) appears in Persian numerals below the central device. The entire design is encircled by a wreath of laurel or olive branches, framing the field on both sides. The execution is typical of provincial Qajar copper coinage, with somewhat irregular flan and uneven strike.
