Khoy, in what is now northwestern Iran near the Turkish and Armenian borders, functioned as a semi-autonomous commercial hub in the late eighteenth century. Anonymous copper falus of this type were issued by the city itself rather than under the Zand or early Qajar dynastic authority, reflecting the administrative fragmentation that characterized Iranian provincial coinage during the turbulent interregnum between Karim Khan Zand's death in 1779 and the consolidation of Qajar power under Agha Mohammad Khan.
Album 3243 covers a loosely grouped series of anonymous civic coppers whose attribution to specific mints often rests on a single surviving specimen — Zeno 8244 being the primary reference anchor for this Khoy attribution.
