Kashan's municipal copper issues of the early eighteenth century occupy an awkward administrative gap — struck not by Safavid imperial authority but by the city itself during a period when central mint control had effectively collapsed following the Afghan invasion of 1722 and the sack of Isfahan. The falus coinage produced by Iranian cities during this interregnum varies wildly in weight and fabric, reflecting local rather than imperial standards.
