| Obverse description | Central field bears a multi-line Arabic inscription arranged in three or four horizontal registers within a rectangular frame or cartouche, characteristic of early Ilkhanid hammered copper coinage. The legend, executed in a somewhat crude angular Kufic or early Naskh script, contains the name and titles of Hulagu Khan. The overall strike is irregular, with weak areas at the periphery consistent with the hand-hammered flan preparation of the period. The field shows moderate to heavy patination typical of circulated base-metal issues of the mid-thirteenth century. |
