Obverse description Central field features an ornate square frame enclosing the word 'wahdahu' (alone/uniquely) in Arabic Kufic script. Four marginal inscriptions in Arabic are disposed to each side of the central square, reading the first part of the shahada: 'lâ ilâha illâ llâh' (there is no god but God). The design is characteristic of early Umayyad post-reform fals coinage, with bold angular Kufic lettering and a decorative geometric border framing the central device.
