| Obverse description | Central field contains a multi-line Arabic Kufic religious inscription arranged in four lines within a dotted border. The legend reads the shahada partial formula, typical of Umayyad anonymous fals coinage. The crudely struck hammered fabric reflects the provincial character of this issue. The field is flat with no figurative imagery, consistent with the aniconic tradition of early Islamic coinage. The overall style is characteristic of early 8th-century provincial Umayyad copper issues. |
