Reverse description The reverse displays a multi-line Kufic Arabic inscription arranged in the field, presenting the Shahada (Islamic declaration of faith), known numismatically as the Kalima. The legend is set within a plain border, struck on an irregularly shaped copper flan consistent with hammered provincial Umayyad production. The lettering is characteristic of early Kufic script as employed on anonymous fals issues of the Umayyad period.
